chapter 96

WE ARE SPENDING OUR STRENGTH IN VAIN

Leviticus 26:19-20 states , “ And if ye will not yet for all this hearken unto me, then I will punish you seven times more for your sins. And I will break the pride of your power; and I will make your heaven as iron, and your earth as brass:

And your strength shall be spent in vain:

As the mightiest nation in the world and the defender of the free world why hasn’t the United States, with the possible exception of Korea, won any conflict since World War II ?
Let us examine America’s involvement around the world in chronological order, from; Vietnam, Libya, Yemen, Iraq, Somalia, Afghanistan, Syria and Egypt.

VIETNAM. The Vietnam War lasted approximately 20 years, from 1955 to 75.  The costs were as follows ; 170 billion ,2 trillion in today’s terms ,60,000 military personnel killed , 100,000 would later commit suicide ,a total of 2.5 to 4 million killed ,many more maimed, disfigured or orphaned.

This total figure was so high due to the methods of warfare used.  7 million tons of ordinances were dropped ,3 times the amount of World War II, the widespread Use of indiscriminate “ carpet bombings “, and widespread Use of chemical defoliants such as , Agent Blue and Agent Orange found to contain carcinogenic dioxin.

These ugly tactics along with atrocities like the My Lai Massacre, where between 350 to 500 civilians of unarmed men, women and children were slaughtered and many women gang raped, left little to differentiate between the U.S. and the communist regimes it was seeking to contain !

Then to ensure these abominations were “ SPENT IN VAIN “, many critics have argued that the war was hindered by restricted terms of engagement and refusal to authorize more firepower ( “ I WILL BREAK THE PRIDE OF YOUR POWER “ )  This seems a completely perverse contradiction to the tactics of war Used,   as just described.

Then there is the more widely recognized reasons of a shortage of manpower and supplies. You would think with these horrible tactics having been sanctioned we would commit a 110% to at least accomplish our goals quickly .   This again fulfills, broken pride in our power AND spending strength in vain !  These things in effect amounted to a betrayal of the U.S. military by civilian politicians. Add to this the blame game , of the military blaming the politicians, the right wingers blaming the pinkos and the media and protesters blaming the Right, completed the picture of how perverse, misguided and uncoordinated this effort actually was !

Then diplomat George Kennan called it “ the most disastrous undertaking “.Now here’s what we achieved, by all these noble efforts. After our pull out, neighboring Kampuchea ,now Cambodia , dictator , Pol Pots, Khymer Rouge forces , murdered 2 million more people in the so-called “ Killing Fields “ .

In response to this, Vietnam’s SRV forces invaded Kampuchea to stop them .  This in turn caused China to feel threatened by Vietnam’s extension of influence and it begin a border war with Vietnam .

So after decades of conflict, started off by the U.S. involvement, Vietnam had the 4th largest army in the world , yet one of the worlds poorest economy’s .Well done US !

LIBYA
. In 1967 Colonel Moammar Qaddafi inherited one of the poorest nations in Africa , by the time he was assassinated Libya was Africa’s wealthiest nation and had the highest life expectancy and highest gross domestic product , fewer people lived below the poverty line than in the Netherlands , wealth was being generated , schools and hospitals were running and were free .

In 2011 the U.S. – led air campaign supporting the “ Arab Spring “ ousting of Gaddafi from power , resulted in catastrophe . Oil production was cut in half , since then 32,000 people have been killed , the nation is locked in war and some 250 militias now run what was once the wealthiest country in Africa .
